TRICA believes it’s important to combat racial injustice and teach quality through arts education.

That’s why we’ve created “Cultural Respect” where students will learn a variety of traditional cultural dances including: Jewish Hora, African Gumboot Dance, Native American Rain Dance as well as traditional Latin Dances. Through this program, we aspire to instill a respect and appreciation for different cultures and ethnic groups to TRICA students. This is a 4 part program, each class 45 minutes long.

School Lunch Jam is a 10-week, in-school program that teaches fifth graders healthy eating habits and how to find the fun in fitness. Each week, TRICA educators will visit participating school(s) for a 45-minute movement class, culminating in a surprise, flash-mob style performance featuring a live rock band in the cafeteria.

Developed over ten years in conjunction with regional and national health advisors, School Lunch Jam inspires children of all ability levels to express themselves through dance and bolstering their sense of self. Fifth graders are engaged in an age-appropriate curriculum that enhances their sense of resiliency, independence and leadership. As the Senior students in a given elementary school, 9 and 10 year-olds are uniquely poised to embrace the challenge, secrecy and collaboration of School Lunch Jam.

Throughout the program, students learn dance moves that correspond with various components of nutrition, including fruit, vegetables and whole grains, before mixing it all together into a school-wide performance for their peers. Our curriculum was created to combat the rise of childhood obesity, and engages young people directly in playful, dynamic physical activity. Students experience mental, physical and emotional growth, learning essential skills like perseverance and teamwork, as well as more tangible ones like how to check their heart rate and identify healthy foods.
