The 2019 TRICA Summer Camp offerings...
PURPLE BALLET WARRIORS: July 16 - July 20, Tue-Sat
This camp is all about ballerina and ballerino awesomeness! Curriculum encourages grit and courage along with creativity and storytelling. Live classical music and fantastic purple tutus. Join TRICA head teacher and founder, Jon Swarthout, for this popular dance camp. Mini-performance on Saturday, 10:30 am.
BREAK DANCE: July 23 - July 27, Tue-Sat
Breakdance is an American born phenomenon that reached global status- and it all started with one kid in the 1970s in NYC. During this favorite camp, students will learn and perform the empowering story of breakdance in America with live synth music. Participants will learn steps, rehearse choreography, and show off their moves for an old school sidewalk performance on Saturday, 10:30 am. Teacher: Jon Swarthout
SHADOW DANCE: July 30 - August 2, Tue-Fri
Returning to TRICA Summer Camps- Shadow Dance! This camp teaches children to tap into their own creative nature and open doors they never even knew existed. Students will use their bodies to create common or unique shapes to form interesting shadows. Throw in a giant shadow screen, a mega-light, and wild music to create an exciting shadow dance performance. Presentation at the end of Friday’s class. Teacher: Jon Swarthout
DANCING THROUGH THE DECADES: August 6 – August 10, Tue-Sat
New! Join TRICA founder, Jon Swarthout, and travel through time for a brief history of the last 100 years of dancing! We will go through a century of different dances that bring us to the current wave of dance trends. Starting with the 1920’s Charleston and moving through 1930’s Harlem Renaissance and dance marathons, 1940’s Big Band Swing, 1950’s Sock Hop, 1960’s Go-go dances, 1970’s Disco, 1980’s Breakdance, 1990’s Macarena, 2000’s Rave, and 2010’s fusion of dance and technology. Students will explore how viral dances on the internet are impacting our pop culture. Join us in exploring how dance has always been a defining part of each decade. Mini public performance on Saturday, 10:30.
